    FAQ

Are the Leonida Keys connected by bridges?
Rockstar has not said. The real Florida Keys are joined by the Overseas Highway, so bridges are a reasonable guess, but no bridges, causeways or ferries have been shown.
Who lives in the Leonida Keys in GTA 6?
Rockstar's bios place Jason Duval in the Keys, working for local drug runners, and Brian Heder there running a boat yard. Cal Hampton is described as Brian's associate, so the Keys are the natural reading for him too, though his bio does not say so directly.
Is Leonida Keys the Florida Keys?
The Florida Keys are the obvious reference, in landscape and in name. Rockstar treats the archipelago as fictional and has not confirmed a one-to-one match.

Leonida Keys is the tropical island chain of the State of Leonida, one of the six regions Rockstar has described. Two of the eight profiled characters make their living here, which makes it the region most closely tied to the story’s people. Its introduction is headed “Gateway to Paradise.”

    In Rockstar’s words

The introduction reads like a travel brochure with a warning attached. “The dress code is casual, the bars are loaded. Life in this tropical archipelago isn’t flashy but it’s easy.” Then the turn: “Get your buzz on and pull up a deck chair but look out — you are right on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in all of America.”

“Dangerous waters” is the line that matters, and the character profiles explain what is going on in them.

This is the regional introduction. The Explore panel on Rockstar’s Only in Leonida page carries a more detailed description, and is worth reading there.

    Who Rockstar places here

The Keys are where Jason’s life was before the story begins, and the bios say so plainly:

    CharacterFrom the official bio
Jason DuvalAfter the Army, “working for local drug runners” in the Keys
Brian HederA veteran of the Keys’ smuggling heyday, still moving loads through a boat yard with his third wife, Lori
Cal HamptonJason’s friend and Brian’s associate, who spends his days listening in on Coast Guard radio; his bio does not say where he lives

A boat yard, smuggling, a man tracking the Coast Guard — the “dangerous waters” of the introduction and the drug trade of the bios fit together. Rockstar has not shown missions, but the local underworld is already clear.

    The Florida Keys reading

The real Florida Keys are the obvious model.

The real geography: the Florida Keys are a chain of coral islands running southwest off the southern tip of Florida, linked by the Overseas Highway — part of U.S. Route 1 — including the Seven Mile Bridge, and ending at Key West.

What not to assume: Rockstar compresses and rearranges real geography, putting driving and boating ahead of accuracy. Island-by-island matches circulating online are guesses until a map is published.

Why an island chain matters for how the game plays

A chain of islands separated by water plays nothing like a city. In earlier games water mostly marked the edge of the map; in a region built around a smuggler’s boat yard, water may well be the main road, with speedboats and yachts doing real work. That is our inference — Rockstar has not described how travel between the islands works.

    Not announced yet

    • Islands. How many there are and what they are called.
    • Connections. Whether every island is reached by bridge or some only by boat.
    • The dangerous waters. Coast Guard patrols, rival smugglers or rough seas.
    • Diving. Whether diving gear, wrecks and underwater exploration return.
